Women’s – des Femmes

The Grafton to Inverell ‘des Femmes’ is a feature race for women as part of the Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic program. The event provides a unique opportunity for women to take on Australia’s toughest one day classic of 228km under the same conditions as men. The inaugural des Femmes race was conducted in 2017 and has grown to be a popular and prestigious cycling event for women. It is conducted as part of the Division 3 race which will be open to both men and women.  In 2021, for the first time, the event will also feature a National Road Series (NRS) event for women (Gibraltar to Inverell des Femmes) conducted as a separate division over the shorter distance of 136.6km that commences from Gibraltar House at the top of the Gibraltar Range.

Gibraltar to Inverell des Femmes NRS

The Gibraltar to Inverell des Femmes NRS race is open to NRS Registered Teams, Wildcard Teams (maximum of two chosen by the event organiser), International Teams (maximum of three) and Individual Riders with a NSW Grading of B 1-3, C 1-3, QLD Grading of Women A, or the equivalent grading in other states..

Teams for the des Femmes NRS event must consist of a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 riders. The best 3 cumulative times that are recorded will determine the team’s category prize.

The des Femmes NRS event is a teams event and is open in order of priority to:

  • NRS Registered Teams
  • International Teams (maximum of 3 teams)
  • 2 Wild Card Teams (to be chosen by the event organiser)
  • Individual Entries – must wear their club or registered kit (the event organiser then may choose to group these riders into composite teams)

Non-registered NRS teams wishing to enter the women’s event are requested to contact the Cycling NSW office via email nsw.entries@cycling.org.au prior to registering their entry

Riders nominated for NRS teams must be registered with the team or approved by AusCycling as a guest rider or emergency rider prior to the close of entries.

Grafton to Inverell des Femmes – Division 3

Female riders can also participate in the Grafton to Inverell ‘des Femmes’ as part of the Division 3 race where the riders are accompanied by police, event support, team and media vehicles throughout the event. There will be a prize for the first three female finishers within Division 3 and female riders will be eligible for all Division 3 prizes.

The race experience will include:

  • Fully supported racing conditions including closed roads and support vehicles
  • Electronic timing
  • Two neutral ‘Water Refreshment Stations’ an two supported ‘Feed Stations’ on course
  • Mobile neutral feeding from the Gibraltar Range to the Mount Mitchell Feed Station
  • Free competitor shirt
  • Finisher’s medallion
  • Complimentary ticket to the event presentation dinner

Note:

Due to permit restrictions, the race has a cut-off time of 5.10pm for all competitors that correlates to an average minimum speed of 24km/h. A Sag Wagon will travel behind the race at all times and has been instructed to reach key points on the course at set times. ’Pace Riders’ will be out on the course to assist riders in completing the event before the 9hrs 30 mins cut-off time

Teams in Division 3 will consist of four riders and can include both male and female members. The team time will be determined from the aggregate time of the first three team members to finish.
